We (John Marvin and Bill Stong) are pleased to offer the second session of Writing & You! —an effort devoted to all manner of topics related to writing. This Saturday, October 26th, we are presenting:

S&M 101: An intro to Similes & Metaphors

For lines as memorable as grabbing the wrong end of a cattle prod

Do you have a favorite book that sails along, page after page, with lines that somehow spark images so vivid that you think, “Yes! Just like that.” Or perhaps favorite authors who somehow pepper their stories (or non-fiction articles!) with comparisons that describe places, feelings, desires, outcomes, and more so perfectly that you viscerally experience them?

If so, the Writing & You! session—“S&M 101: An intro to Similes and Metaphors” —contains:

  • An overview of similes and metaphors
  • Examples
  • Interactive exercises creating unique ones in small groups, including one devoted to helping you with one from your own work.
